Like Now, It's out Time: Reinvention in Midlife with Lorett Cuadra & Dhara Mistry Lorett Cuadra and Dhara Mistry join us to share their captivating journeys of transformation, proving that reinvention is not just possible but immensely rewarding. Lorett, who pivoted from a corporate career to founding Bombochiya, a luxury handbag boutique, and Dhara, who transitioned from an HR executive to an executive leadership coach, demonstrate the power of embracing change and pursuing new dreams. Their stories illuminate the challenges and triumphs of career pivots, particularly the societal perceptions of assertiveness in women and the unique challenges faced by first-generation women and women of color. We explore the emotional rollercoaster of career transitions, from the setbacks faced when dreams like owning a resale shop are dashed, to the resilience required to rise again as a "momager" and luxury brand connector. The episode dives into personal anecdotes of overcoming imposter syndrome, a scam's financial fallout, and the resilience needed to pivot into a new professional chapter. The narratives highlight personal growth, the importance of community support, and the courage to stand against societal stereotypes. When your Parents become a second Full-time Job! Y'all, I've been on a hiatus, not from my making, but because life happens! You all know that juggling the demands of family caregiving, work, and personal life requires resilience, and last April pushed me to the limit when my father underwent a surprise quadruple bypass surgery. This procedure pushed my caregiving responsibilities, showing something I talk a lot about, what being a part of the sandwich generation means. I'm super grateful that I share the load with my sister and brothers, something that reminds me of the importance of a support system. The emotional and physical challenges led me to think of self-care practices, not as luxuries but as lifelines. Non-negotiable routines like travel became essential for maintaining my balance amidst the chaos. Amidst these trials, I'm launching a six-part series, "No Me Vengas Con Mamadas," focusing on empowerment and self-love. This is about reminding ourselves to prioritize personal needs and set boundaries to prevent burnout. Accepting no BS and only doing what we feel aligned to do! I'm thrilled to introduce my co-host Nikki Lopez, a gifted hairstylist and creative partner, as we channel resilience into innovative projects. Together, we aim to inspire you to embrace self-care as a foundation for thriving amidst life’s challenges. Join us in this journey of passion and perseverance, and explore how we can all support each other in times of need. In this episode, the conversation delves into the deep-rooted tensions between generations shaped by authoritarian rule and those raised in a more individualistic society. How do we face the challenges of being children of immigrants? What are our views on how that has affected us as a married interracial couple? Rusk and I explore the conspiratorial mindset inherited from growing up under dictatorships, where propaganda and misinformation are the norm, and contrast it with the freedoms and self-expression valued in Western cultures. With personal reflections on patriarchal expectations, reverence for authority, and the struggle to bridge the gap between two vastly different worldviews, this episode offers a compelling look at the complexities of identity, culture, and familial relationships. Alicia has worked for years to prove herself in every possible way. Her upbringing as the oldest of four in the near northside of Houston taught her grit and determination. Every single thing she does exceeds expectations and is aligned with integrity. Her father once said to her that we are all the product of their generation's sacrifices and it's so important that we give back to society so that their sacrifices will not be in vain and that's what she holds as her guiding star.
